Energy & Stewardship
We all remember feeling that energy surge after an achievement, encounter, or event. Energy arrives with inspiration and motivation, then gradually dulls and disperses.
For many of us, that high energy fades quickly under the weight of daily responsibilities.
I’ve lived through periods that required sustained focus on both family and work, periods that demanded steady energy day after day.
During one recent life transition, I paused and asked myself: Where did my energy come from during those challenging times? It came from both innate and nurtured sources. Over time, I learned to tend it through awareness and intention.
Around that same period, I found myself having similar conversations with those around me. A familiar theme emerged. Many were juggling back-to-back commitments and noticing their energy fluctuating too often.
Most of us recognize that our energy is finite.
We cannot sustain high-stress periods without frequent replenishment. We need reserves where we can tap peace, strength, and motivation. When depleted, we lose clarity, focus, and momentum.
Our energy requires daily release and renewal. In quieter periods, restoration happens more easily. In challenging times, it calls for intentional nurturing.
Two practices have served me well.
One is blocking off time on my calendar for decompression and replenishment. I call it my Time-for-Me (TFM) and treat it as a daily need, like food and sleep.
The other is noticing when my energy dips and deciding whether to push forward or pause and recalibrate. That small moment of awareness often prevents deeper depletion.
Our energy is precious and deserves stewardship.
We protect it by strengthening the habits that support it.
What are two small things you can do to nurture your energy? More sleep, better nutrition, daily movement, a change in environment?
In your demanding schedule, where can you carve out a little time to replenish?
