Integral Component
My-Tien has become an integral component of a continual 8-week professional training program for public school nurses in Denver (DPS), the largest school district in Colorado. Students come to our nurses with daily crises, which include bullying, homelessness, substance use disorders, and suicidal thoughts. DPS RNs must ensure their patients and families are provided wrap-around support, like hospice nurses or other specialty care nurses. Consequently, they often ignore how weighty these daily emergencies affect their own mental health.
My-Tien adeptly guided our nurses to investigate and support their own strategies to ensure their well-being. She received the highest ratings among all components of the 8-week training, with nurses acknowledging that My-Tien’s Self-Care program was vital for transforming their work and personal habits, enhancing their mental health, and fostering their personal growth.

No Guilt Self-Care
My-Tien has helped me through some very low moments in my life with her Wellness / Self-Care coaching. She gave me gentle, encouraging and firm direction to put me on a path toward work/life balance as a mom of two wonderful children (one of whom is a profoundly autistic teenager) with a demanding career in academic administration. My health often came last; I’ve struggled to make time for it.

Time for Me (TFM)
The insights and information that I learned from My-Tien in the last few months have reminded me that as a healthcare professional, I must take time to care for myself first. It’s easy to focus on others and forget about my mental health and what is best for me. I’ve incorporated what My-Tien called, “Time for Me (TFM)” into my daily life. I Got My Time-for-Me Back!
Thanks to My-Tien’s coaching, I had an “Aha!” moment that my body is my only home, and I need to take better care of it. I also dropped my narrative that, “I don’t have time for self-care.” I went home and told my family that dinner will be an hour late from now on because I needed to go to the gym first, on my way home from work. New Self-Care Practice
As a busy mom of three, wife, and full-time school nurse, care for myself has not been at the top of my list. Having My-Tien come and work with a group of us during a mental health-based professional development, both in what she presented to our whole group and also her responses to our own personal situations, has been the key to moving me to a space where I actually take action for Self-Care.
My-Tien’s recommendations led me to make changes such as setting a work alarm to start packing up and leave work on time, taking advantage of unexpected free time (canceled or postponed meetings) for myself instead of doing tasks for others, and getting back to daily exercise and caring for myself physically. Perhaps even most profoundly, interacting with My-Tien led me to recognize and celebrate all of the things I’m doing well, and to give myself permission to take what she calls, “Time-For-Me (TFM).” I am truly grateful for her and what she brings!

Inspired to Reset My Self-Care Practice
My-Tien’s Mental Health: Self-Care coaching reminded me that, “my body is the only home I have: 24/7.” She inspired me to reset and start a new Self-Care routine with the following three things.
First, setting a daily phone alarm for after work, which reminds me to shut off my work brain and start my personal life. This new ritual has been super helpful; I no longer feel guilty, and I’ve stopped checking work emails once I leave my office. I feel I have a new and healthy boundary that separates work and home life. Second, I’m taking a daily walk in nature and moving my body. Third, I take a bath before bed every night to wash off my stress from the day. I feel overall so much better about managing my daily stress and decompressing.
My self-love and confidence have grown knowing that I am actively doing things to take care of my mental and physical health, including taking Time for Me (TFM). Self-care is not always easy as a parent and a healthcare professional. It can be all too easy to take care of others while neglecting my own well-being and needs. My-Tien has been super helpful in helping me prioritize time and care for myself. Thank you, My-Tien!
