Respect Your Body
A note for founders and builders who live in constant motion.
We live so much in our mind and often neglect the other half that keeps us moving through daily life: our body.
Recently, I listened to Shi Heng Yi, the Vietnamese-German monk and founder of Shaolin Temple Europe, who teaches ancient Eastern wisdom for modern life. His insights remind us to think about how we treat our body.
First: “Use your body to gain access to your mind.”
What did he mean? Physical movement clears mental fog. Walking. Stretching. Lifting. Swimming. Tai chi.
The body releases the tension and fatigue that the mind carries.
Clarity follows motion.
Second: “As long as your body is healthy, you have a thousand problems. When you are sick, you have one.”
Our body is our only home 24/7.
Daily responsibilities, problem solving, and new initiatives all rest on this foundation.
During challenging periods, we often try to solve everything with more thinking. A wiser and more effective move: step away from strategizing and allocate time for physical exertion.
Exercise releases accumulated stress. It steadies the heart. It sharpens judgment.
We return energized and focused.
Finally: “Respect, love, and take care of your body.”
We can replace our car. We can pivot our strategy. We can shift product direction.
We cannot replace our body.
Our physical health determines the quality of our energy and our decisions.
The more respect we show our body, the more energy we bring to our day.
If your calendar feels packed, carve out twenty minutes today for movement.
Which activity will help you decompress and replenish?
